Assistant Director – Boorowa Early Education Centre

Permanent Position | 3 Days Off the Floor | Above Award Salary

Are you a passionate early childhood professional ready to take the next step in your leadership journey? Boorowa Early Education Centre is seeking a full-time dedicated Assistant Director to support our team. Internal applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.

This exciting position offers the best of both worlds – three days off the floor supporting the Director with leadership and operations, and the remaining days teaching (or pro rata) to stay connected with children and educators. You’ll work closely with the Director to guide, mentor, and empower our team, helping to maintain a positive, professional, and high-quality learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

As Assistant Director, you will support the Director and contribute to the smooth operation of the service. Your duties include:

  • Leadership and Staff Support: Guide, mentor, and support educators; model professional practices; handle challenging conversations with empathy and discretion.

  • Rostering and Staffing: Assist with staff rosters, leave coverage, and ensuring above-ratio requirements are maintained.

  • Policy and Compliance: Contribute to the development, review, and updating of policies and procedures and maintain compliance with NQF, NQS, and EYLF standards.

  • Quality Improvement Planning (QIP): Support the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of the QIP to ensure ongoing service improvement.

  • Day-to-Day Operations: Assist with the smooth daily running of the centre, including operational decisions, problem-solving, and supporting educators when needed.

  • Liaison and Communication: Maintain positive relationships with families, community partners, and external support services; act as a point of contact for regulatory or advisory bodies in the absence of the director.

  • Director Support: Step into the Director role during periods of leave, ensuring leadership continuity and maintaining service quality.

Key Skills and Attributes

Qualifications

  • Bachelor-qualified (or working towards) highly regarded. Diploma qualified considered.

  • Current Working with Children Check, First Aid/CPR/Asthma/Anaphylaxis and Safe Food Handling certifications

  • Child Protection Training and refresher updates

Early Childhood Educator/Teacher

Boorowa Early Education Centre (BEEC) is a beautiful not-for-profit Preschool and Long Day Care service located in the small country town of Boorowa.

BEEC is seeking a highly motivated and passionate Early Childhood professional to join our team. This is a permanent position, available for an immediate start, and is open to applicants across all qualification levels—from Trainee Educators through to Early Childhood Teachers (ECTs).

The responsibilities of this role will vary depending on qualifications, experience, and strengths, and may involve working in an assistant capacity or taking on a room leader/leadership role, with appropriate support and mentoring provided.

The successful applicant will demonstrate a genuine passion for educating and caring for young children and a strong commitment to fostering a positive, supportive work environment for both children and staff. They will be motivated, proactive, and capable of prioritising tasks while showing initiative across all areas of their role.

This is a flexible full-time or part-time position, with opportunities for further career progression and the potential to become part of our leadership team for the right applicant. We offer above-award wages, ongoing professional development opportunities, and one-on-one mentoring.

Essential criteria:

  • Must have or obtain a current NSW Working with Children Check

  • Hold a current First Aid, Anaphylaxis and Emergency Asthma Management certificate (or willing to obtain, cost subsidized by service)

  • Hold or working towards an ACECQA recognised Early Childhood qualification or degree or willingness to undertake a traineeship.

  • Sound knowledge of the EYLF and NQS

  • Good communication skills

  • Great time management and organisation skills

Duties:

  • Work alongside an experienced management team to drive quality practices and learning outcomes for children

  • Contribute to and implement the program, as well as documenting children’s individual learning

  • Maintain open communication at all times and work amongst a large team

  • Comply with centre's policies, procedures and the Code of Conduct
